Activity Journal
Find a large tree, in a park, forest, yard, or neighbors’ yard (get their permission!) and sit at the base of it, with your back against it. Close your eyes and relax, exhaling and breathing deeply. Try to reach out from your self and feel the presence of the tree; feel your tension, anger, and tiredness release. This is the power that being with nature has. Sit there for a while, being mindful of the thoughts and feelings that come to you. Before leaving, thank the tree. Write down how this made you feel, and if you could feel a connection to the tree. Make this part of a routine (daily, if possible), and continue to write down your thoughts and feelings. See if the strength of this connection deepens over time.
